The days are getting colder and the strawberry season is once again around the corner. Although large-scale supply will only arrive in the middle of next month, winter strawberries from Xuzhou in the Jiangsu Province, Dandong in the Liaoning Province, Pingdu in the Shandong Province, and Changping in the Beijing City are already arriving at the market. Although some varieties are on the market early, prices this year are lower than the same period of last year, by about 5 yuan per half a kilo. This is mainly because large volumes are available at the same time, putting pressure on the price.
Sellers in the Beijing Wholesale Market said that prices of various varieties are about 5 yuan lower than in previous years. Due to weather conditions, strawberries from main production areas flooded into the market in November, instead of trickling into the market as in previous years, putting pressure on the price. During the peak season next month, daily sales are expected to reach three to five times what they are now.
