Newly built Waterman Onions ready and in use

At the end of October the first part of Dutch onion traders, Waterman Onions' new warehouse was completed. The storage and expedition space has now also been put to use. This marks the completion of the whole warehouse. The back part of the building has already been in use since the beginning of September. "The construction ran smoothly," says Erik Waterman. "The first section was completed on schedule by the start of the harvesting season. There are now 3 500 crates of onions drying in there." The interior subdivision still has to be completed in the newly completed front section. "There will be six cells that we can use for drying and cooling", says Waterman. "This work is going to start in the beginning of 2018. Until then, the space will be used for expedition purposes. We have also build three new loading docks."

Energy neutral
In addition to the internal layout that needs to be done in the front part of the warehouse, there is another big challenge on the agenda. "We have been allocated a Sustainable Energy Product subsidy", says Erik. "We are, therefore, going to put up solar panels. There will be a total of 4 500 panels on the south-facing roofs of all three our warehouses. When this is finished, our business will be almost completely energy neutral. This fits in well with our pursuit of doing business in a sustainable manner."
