From the 13th to the 15th of April 2016 an international tomato conference will take place in Antwerp. The Theme is: 'Tomatoes, trends towards 2020'. "There is a strong emphasis on the quality in the Belgian tomato cultivation. This is why we are happy to announce the international tomato conference," says Isle Ceulemans of LAVA, one of the organisers.
Tomatoes in the spotlight
The first meeting for the event was at the end of 2014 after the congress on leafy greens. "Back then it was suggested that it was time to put tomatoes and all the developments within that product group in the spotlight and network with them."
Ilse indicates that the organisers are still filling the programme with various speakers at the moment. "The congress will start on Wednesday 13th of April 2016 in the afternoon with a plenary sitting. After this the programme will be split up into a scientific part and a commercial part where participants will choose which programme they wish to follow. Both the production and consumption of tomatoes in the world will be discussed, as will themes such as sustainability, innovation and trends. On Wednesday and Thursday countless presentations were given and on Thursday there will be a plenary close by a trendwatcher. On Friday tours will be organised to auctions, nurseries and practical companies. We could receive around 300 to 250 people."
Location: Radisson Blu te Antwerpen The organisation is in the hands of : LAVA, VCBT, BelOrta, Veiling Hoogstraten, REO Veiling, Proefstation voor de Groenteteelt in Sint-Katelijne-Waver and the Proefstation Hoogstraten.
