Availability of Belgian and German lettuce limited

The availability of Belgian and German lettuce is limited. However the prices showed a downward trend due to the low demand. Furthermore sometimes the weights of the heads of lettuce were too low. On Friday the interest increased in some places but that barely influenced the price. Only in Berlin the prices increased because the supply wasn’t sufficient to meet the demand.

Spain dominated the trade in iceberg salad ahead of the Netherlands. Germany hasn’t been playing a role in this segment at certain places. Products with some problems on offer, for instance in Frankfurt and Hamburg, could barely be sold. Harvest restrictions due to rain have led to such a low supply that it was barely enough to satisfy the demand. Therefore the majority of the prices increased.

The presence of Italian mixed salad on the market increased noticeably. This increased the pressure on the German mixed salad, which didn’t always consist of a convincing quality. Especially on Thursday the trade was fast and the prices stabilized. The price of lamb’s lettuce remained stable, only in Frankfurt the prices were lowered slightly due to the supply. Italian batches of endives are available now. Nevertheless they weren’t popular because German produce is cheaper.
