IndexBox Marketing has just published a new report “World: Tomato – Market Report. Analysis and Forecast to 2020”.

The Netherlands dominates in the global tomato trade. In 2014, the Netherlands exported 1.1 million tonnes of tomato totaling 2 billion USD, 8% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Germany, where it supplied 48.4% of its total tomato exports in value terms, accounting for two thirds of Germany’s total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, the Netherlands was a net exporter of tomato. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced.

Mexico and Spain were among the other main global suppliers of tomato in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Mexico (+7.3% per year) and Jordan (+12.5% per year).

The Netherlands’ top 5 trading partners in 2014 were Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Belgium and Norway, with a combined 76.5% share of the Netherlands’ tomato exports. The share of Germany increased modestly (+2.6 percentage points), while the share of the United Kingdom dipped slightly (-1.1 percentage points).
