Italy: Cucumber season slowed down

With the shift from Northern to Southern production, the Italian cucumber season has "slowed down".

"In October, we shifted from the produce coming from the Veneto region to that from Latina and Ragusa. A few Spanish pallets can also be found on the market. They are sold at 80 cents per kg, whereas the Italian produce costs 10/15 cents less per kg. Both types are dark green and compact," explain operators from Bruno srl, wholesaler located in Verona.

Production is in line with expectations and "demand is slow because autumn does not push sales. It is always like this in winter months because Italy sees cucumbers as a summer vegetable and foreign countries start to export them only in March/April."
