According to the harvest progress of the Agricultural Information Service and Pesquera (SIAP), despite having reduced the area devoted to apple crops, Zacatecas’ apple production up to September 2015 has been higher by 437.17 than in 2014.
In September 2014 Zacatecas had 1,059 hectares devoted to this crop, which produced 807 tons. That month 242 hectares were harvested.
Meanwhile, in September 2015, Zacatecas had 701 hectares devoted to this crop and 457 hectares were harvested, leaving production of 3,528 tons of apple.
Last year, Zacatecas’ yearly apple production ranked sixth nationally and amounted to 5,328.35 tons; production in September 2015 amounted to 66.21 percent of the annual figure.
15 municipalities in the state are producers, most notably Jerez, which in 2014 produced 4,157 tons of apple and Fresnillo, which produced 411 tons in 2014.
The third position is occupied Tlaltenango, with 180 tons; Zacatecas, with 143.55, and Genaro Codina, with 92 tons.
Apple production in the state leaves an economic benefit of up to $33,053,353.55 pesos.
