Less crop protection residue EU

The European Authority for Food Safety (EFSA) has noted in its current report that the contamination of food with crop protection residue remains low, reports the German website Proplanta.de. According to the report 97% of all samples taken had a lower level of residues, of crop protection agents, than legally allowed.

Before the analysis almost 79,000 food samples were taken in the EU, Norway and Iceland in 2012. With a percentage of 2.8% the allowed value was exceeded especially in broccoli. It was followed by cauliflower, grapes, peppers, aubergine, bananas and grain. Organic products were rarely excessively contaminated, only in 0.8% of the cases. On around 85% of all tested organic product no residues of crop protection were found at all.
