New variation of the Fuji apple
In week 49 the Beni Shogun apple made its first appearance on the German wholesale market in Frankfurt. This apple is also known as the 'red general'. It is a variation of the Japanese Yataka, which is a variation of the Fuji apple. It has a sweet taste and is reminiscent of a pineapple. The orange-red Beni Shogun has smooth skin and is around until May/June. The apple is suitable for growing in the northern part of the Alps across to Hamburg. The variety is legally protected under the name 'Heisei Fuji' in all European countries.
