The Swiss seed company Syngenta is to cut 1800 jobs worldwide. This was announced by the company on Monday. The breeder wants to save around 1 billion dollars (over 800 million Euro) by 2018. By moving activities to cheaper countries and merging laboratories it should be up to 265 million next year. In a new strategy Syngenta will focus on research and development, commercial and worldwide activities.
The Netherlands
It is not yet known whether the reorganisation will also influence employees in the eight locations in the Netherlands. According to a spokesperson the Netherlands will remain an important country for Syngenta even after the announced reorganisation. Especially considering the role it places in the areas of innovation and agriculture. "This large role for the Netherlands will be retained," the spokesperson reassured the Telegraaf.
Over the course of next year more will be revealed about the effect of the reorganisation, which is no more than "a global plan" so far.
