Mexico and Israel increase their cooperation in agriculture
During his tour to Israel, the Secretary of Agriculture, Enrique Martinez y Martinez, visited production and research units in order to exchange information and experience on issues related to the productive development of desert areas.
In particular, he stressed, the technological advances in crop irrigation systems, protected agriculture and organization for production.
Mexico also seeks to increase the flow of exports to Israel, especially of vegetables and fruits, as the Latin American country currently markets juices, fruit concentrate, tequila, beer, and chickpeas, among others, in Israel reported the Ministry of Agriculture, livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (Sagarpa).
Enrique Martinez y Martines got together with Yair Shamir, Israel's Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, with whom he spoke about the challenges that the food industry was facing because of the increased demand for production due to population growth.
The Secretary of Agriculture also visited the Kibbutz's Metzer Centre for Irrigation, and the dairy farm of Kibbutz Yifat, where he got a glimpse of the progress that Israel has made in the production of milk and milk derivatives.
Martinez y Martinez met with directors of the Agricultural Research Organization (ARO) at Volcani Centre and spoke about biotechnology issues, cattle genetics, environmental sciences, and food science.
He also visited the Centre for Natural Resources Research and Biotechnology and the Ginosar Kibbutz, where he made a technical presentation about hydroponic methods and protected agriculture.
According to Sagarpa, the Infrastructure and Capacity Building for the Development of Agriculture in desert areas Training Centre, and a fertilizer production company, will be visiting the country.
