WHS and WorkCover special focus of this year’s Workplace Essentials Seminars
Peak horticulture body Growcom will deliver essential workplace information and support to horticultural growers in north Queensland this week when the annual Workplace Essentials Seminars get under way in Mareeba, Mourilyan and Rollingstone.
An overview of Workplace Health and Safety laws will be followed by a session on WorkCover to assist growers to understand their obligations and to explore ways to steamline the processes, minimise disruption and staff absences, and reduce premiums.
Also on the agenda will be a presentation on the pilot Live Well Farm Well project, an initiative being rolled out by Growcom and Diabetes Queensland in the Cassowary Coast region, focusing on practical ways rural workplaces can achieve simple health improvements to reduce the risk of chronic disease. (A Queensland Government Workplaces for Wellness Initiative.)
Other items include a discussion about Super Stream and an update on superannuation from AustSafe Super.
The free seminars will run from 9.30 am – 1.30 pm in:
• Mareeba – Tuesday 14 October – Mitchell Room, Mareeba Department of Natural Resources and Mines, A Block, First Floor, 28 Peters Street, Mareeba.
• Mourilyan – Wednesday 15 October – Sugarama Conference Room, Australian Sugar Heritage Centre, Bruce Highway, Mourilyan
• Rollingstone – Thursday 16 October – Pace Farms, 18 Pace Road, Rollingstone.
Growcom’s Workplace Essentials Seminars are sponsored by AustSafe Super.
