Italy: Lively foreign demand for seedless grapes

"Thank goodness for seedless grapes!" says Raffaella Didonna, quality and marketing manager for Di Donna. Consumption of the traditional varieties is in fact not so good: "demand is dropping and the Russian ban does not help, especially considered that they preferred varieties with seeds. Red Globe and Italia grapes are the varieties that are most affected by the situation."

Foreign demand for seedless grapes is though on the rise: "we have noticed a growth in demand for early and late seedless grapes."

Almost the entire production is exported. "In Italy, seedless grapes is relatively unknown, so demand is still very low. I believe though that it is just a matter of time, it is bound to get more popular."

As regards other competitors, Didonna says that she feels "the Italian produce is getting increasingly popular on the European markets and that there is margin for growth."

The entrepreneur also adds that bad weather in Apulia damaged a lot of the produce that had yet to be harvested.

Gruppo Di Donna will take part in Fruit Attraction (Hall 9 - Stand 9E05G), all visitors will be welcomed by Raffaella and her cousin Pietro Didonna.
