Italy: COPA cooperative at Fruit Attraction 2014

"Counterseasonal asparagus harvesting between September and October has now been popular for a few years. The produce is fresh and looks good, similar to the spring one," explains Sergio Marcoaldi, agronomist for
the C.O.P.A. cooperative, which will take part in Fruit Attraction in Madrid between 15th and 17th October 2014.

"People are surprised by the fact that the produce is Italian, although they shouldn't really be, as the weather in late summer is similar to spring."

Green asparagus is the flagship product for the C.O.P.A. cooperative: harvesting starts in January with forced crops and ends in June with open field crops only to start again in September.

"2014 was a very positive season for green asparagus. Open field harvesting started quite early and there were no productive peaks, so there was no oversupply. This in turn meant prices were good throughout the season."

The C.O.P.A. cooperative will take part in Fruit Attraction 2014. It will be part of the Lazio Region stand in Hall 3 - Stand 3B05. Cooperative representatives Giancarlo Benella and Sergio Marcoali will showcase the green asparagus that are currently being harvested.
