OTC, which has two offices in Europe, opened an American office because of the growing demand for organic produce. That demand has not waned, noted Marco Brakkee, OTC's vice president, eventhrough world economic troubles.
“In fact, during the economic crisisworldwide consumption of organic fruit and vegetables has grown every singleyear,” said Brakkee. “The U.S. is an important market because of the marketshare on organics, and yearly growth continues to increase in the UnitedStates.” With continued strong demand, securing organic produce to feed thatdemand becomes the biggest issue. Brakkee explained that they can handle allaspects of importing and marketing produce, so they're able to secure productfrom growers all over the world. This season they'll begin importing productsthey've never offered before in North America.
“OTC USA is adding new products to itsportfolio this year,” said Brakkee. “This December we will market organic SouthAfrican blueberries for the first time in the U.S., and we'll have organicgreen grapes from Argentina for our Canadian clients.”
