US (CA): Fall potato production unchanged from last year

At 4.312 million cwt, California fall potato production for 2012 is projected to be the same as it was last year, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service. The expected average yield for the state, at 490,000 cwt per acre, also remained unchanged from last year's average yield. Total harvested acreage was projected at 8,800 acres.

Fall production for the U.S. in 2012 is expected to reach 422 million cwt, which would be a jump of 8 percent over last year's fall potato production. The average yield, at 426 cwt per acre, and the total area harvested, at 992,000 acres, are also expected to be greater this year when compared to last year's numbers.
