South African citrus went welluntil start of Spanish Navelinas

Netherlands: Swift mandarin market

The mandarin market is currently running well with prices around 9 to 10 Euro. According to Dutch traders the product has good taste and is selling well. "The early clementines are just fine. Satsumas come in many different tastes. Good Satsumas are sometimes tastier than moderate-Marisol mandarins, but there are also a lot of lesser Satsumas on the market."

The last South African citrus is currently being sold. This summer, the market saw a somewhat slow start, but then sales ran smoothly. According to traders it was qualitatively a good year, but volumes were less because South Africa is exporting more directly to the Far and Middle East.

When Spain entered the market with Navelinas, however the South African product struggled. "Supermarkets had the Navelinas in nets then a surplus of product was on the market. Everyone continues to ask 10/11 Euro, but in the meantime it is also sold at 8.50/9 Euro."
