German iceberg lettuce market in transitional phase towards Spanish produce

As the harvest season of iceberg lettuce in Germany is slowly coming to an end, the German market is currently switching to Spanish produce. Last week, only qualitatively well-developed crops in southern Germany were harvested and sold without problems. The situation is roughly the same in northern Germany. The quality of the harvested crops here has declined due to the significant rainfall. Export from Germany will not continue for much longer.

Last week, slightly larger quantities were imported from Spain than was previously the case. After all the rain and flooding in Spain, the quality of the iceberg lettuce from that country is still often of lesser quality, making it necessary to pay attention when buying iceberg lettuce. Due to storm damage, causing many crop losses in some places, one can not count on a great start to the Spanish season. Combined with the declining German supply, this gives rise to expectations for a relatively smooth transitional season.
