Syria will likely produce almost a million tons of citrus this year, according to an official source. About 25% of the produce will be export. Minister of Agriculture Subhi Abdullah has checked the state of affairs and has estimated a yield of 897 tons. Some 240 tons will be exported, mostly to Iran.
In a coming meeting between several ministries, new foreign markets will be explored.
Minister Abdullah underlined the importance of stimulating local growers , and to make sure the sector can continue to see a profit. He also endorses investments in smaller companies.
