The Australian grape harvest is well underway and growers are looking at a much better harvest this year, the season started slightly late but the quality and colour is looking very good.
“The Chinese market is doing well for Australian grapes,“ according to Sam Vasala from Sai World. “The main variety Crimson is moving well into Thailand, Singapore and Malasia. However, the premium varieties going into Vietnam are going a bit slower. Japan is also not taking the same volumes as before.”
Sam puts this down to price inflation, “All around the world people are having to prioritise when it comes to buying groceries. “People will prioritise vegetables and meat, so fruit comes last and has taken a hit. The buying power is just not there at the moment.”
“The late start to the season could be a good thing as South Africa are looking like they have an early finish. Australia has also come in at the right time to supply Red Globe to Indonesia for Ramadan and that market is looking very strong.”
