Yesterday, several petrol pumps across Odisha went dry on the second day of "quit steering strike" by commercial drivers in the state. The supply chain of petrol, diesel, vegetables and other essential commodities has been badly affected due to the indefinite strike started by Drivers Ekata Mahamancha over a 10-point charter of demands.
Major vegetable markets like Chhatrabazar in Cuttack, Unit-I market in Bhubaneswar, Bada Bazar in Berhampur and other mandis faced severe shortage of fresh fruits and vegetables and were somewhat deserted on Thursday. "Prices of vegetables have increased by Rs 10 to Rs 40 per kg in city markets," said the Secretary of the Vegetable Vendors at unit-1 market.
