Season starts a week earlier than last year

First German asparagus marketed at Mannheim wholesale market

The starting signal for the German asparagus season has sounded. The first German asparagus from heated cultivation was harvested on February 24, being offered for sale at the Mack & Gerstner stand at the Mannheim wholesale market.

Last year, the first German asparagus was also traded at the Mannheim wholesale market. Last year's season, however, did not start until nearly a week later, on March 4.
