Coveris makes waves in its vision of 'No Waste' at Packaging Innovations 2023

Coveris is set to showcase its sustainable solutions at Packaging Innovations 2023. An award-winning producer of paper-based and plastic packaging, Coveris' product innovations align with its sustainability strategy 'No Waste,' focussed on no product, no packaging and no operational waste, achieving maximum benefit with minimum environmental impact.

Taking place from 15 – 16 February 2023 at the NEC, Birmingham, Packaging Innovations is the UK's leading industry event for the packaging supply chain.

Recover: Keeping plastics circular
Aligned with its No Waste sustainability vision, Coveris recently announced the introduction of a new business segment, ReCover. ReCover bundles Coveris' efforts in waste sourcing, processing, and recycling to close the loop for circular plastic recycling. In addition to the acquisition of a well-established PE recycler in December 2022 to support the launch of ReCover, Coveris' UK extrusion operations comprise mechanical recycling capabilities enabling the recycling and re-use of production waste as part of a circular process.

A new generation of produce packaging
Delivering a new generation of packaging, Coveris uses its expertise in material innovation and food science in the development of paper-based and plastic solutions for the fresh produce sector, aligned with its vision for No Waste.

Coveris' linerless label punnets combine the environmental and operational benefits of carton board punnets with linerless labels. Using certified, sustainably sourced, and recyclable paper-based materials, the use of linerless labels with punnets offers an alternative to plastic formats and provides automation and efficiency benefits during packing, premium shelf appeal, and production protection. Additional printable, recyclable paper-based solutions for fresh produce in Coveris' portfolio include self-adhesive labels, tags and trays.

Integral in the role of freshness and shelf-life extension, Coveris' award-winning Food Science Lab, targets minimised waste and maximised lifecycle for both product and packaging. Coveris' scientifically engineered Freshlife® films, now available using the highly accurate laser perforation system Perfotec, extend shelf-life, improve freshness, and reduce waste. Developed for form, fill, seal (FFS), and lidding applications, Coveris' film solutions for whole, prepared, and mixed produce, including fruit, salad and vegetables, combine advanced packaging technologies with food science for the sector.

Forward-thinking developments in mono-material packaging
Coveris will also showcase its pioneering range of MonoFlex mono-material laminates, providing a direct replacement for non-recyclable or difficult-to-recycle consumer plastic packaging. Developed to maintain product shelf life, performance, functionality and packing efficiency, our recyclable MonoFlex solutions include MonoFlexBE grated cheese pouches, now launched with five UK retailers, MonoFlexE packaging for ambient, bakery, and pet food markets, and MonoFlexBE films for poultry retail lines.
