China is interested in importing Kazakh agricultural products

Kazakhstan is ready to offer 135 new commodity items to China and asks to remove barriers to the export of agricultural products. Trade cooperation between the two countries was discussed by Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and Premier of the State Council of China Li Keqiang.

According to the press service of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China increased by 14% last year and reached $18 billion. This year, even greater growth is observed: it increased by almost 33% in 10 months and amounted to $19.7 billion, ElDala.kz reports.

Alikhan Smailov noted that it is necessary to expand the range of supplied goods and services and establish more direct contacts between the two countries’ businesses. Kazakhstan is ready to increase the export of its products to China in 135 commodity items. The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan noted the importance of removing barriers to the export of Kazakh agricultural products.

Among the priority areas of cooperation is the development of rail freight, including the opening of a third railroad checkpoint between Kazakhstan and China.

Li Keqiang noted that China considers Kazakhstan a friendly neighbor and an important trade partner. According to him, China is particularly interested in increasing the supply of goods and agricultural products, launching new projects in the energy sector, as well as developing humanitarian ties and cooperation in the field of environmental protection.

“We are ready to continue to work together with our Kazakh colleagues to strengthen bilateral relations between our countries,” said Li Keqiang.

Recall that Kazakh exports of agricultural products to China have been problematic since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
