The okra production sector in Senegal is in good standing, with domestic and foreign demand on the rise.
Mr. Mohamed Mbengue, director of Unionagri Des Niayes, expects a spectacular increase in his production, more than double that of last year. Mr. Mbengue said, "The season started in October and will end in June. We expect to go from 350 tons last season to 800 tons this season".
Mr. Mbengue explains the increase: "Local demand is a given and continues to grow. Our foreign customers are also satisfied and are increasing their orders." The company exports in particular to the European market and to the neighboring country, Mauritania.
"We want to increase the share of our production that goes to export, and aim to introduce new markets, especially in England and Northern Europe. For this, we apply reasonable prices. We will maintain our prices at the same level as previous seasons," concludes Mr. Mbengue.
