Murcia's agri-food product exports to Thailand increased by 20% totaling more than 6.2 million euro

After meeting in Bangkok with the Spanish Ambassador to Thailand, Felipe de la Morena, the commercial advisor Luis Lopez and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Olga Baniandres, the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Environment and Emergencies, Antonio Luengo, stated that Murcia's agri-food product exports to Thailand had increased by 20% totaling more than 6.2 million euro.

"With this growth we've doubled the exports of five years ago, which demonstrates the possibilities we have in Thailand, a country with 70 million inhabitants that is especially interested in ingredients for food."

"We are absolutely convinced that Asian buyers welcome our Community's fruit and vegetable offer because of their quality, flavor, preservation of properties, and the innovation that we have been applying in our productive sectors for years," he stated.

"The Region of Murcia's agri-food sector is aware of the enormous potential of the Asian market. We also know the complexity involved in gaining ground among so many products and so many bureaucratic obstacles that, at times, may delay the approval of shipments for several years. That's why these kinds of meetings are significant if we want to continue expanding the borders of our exports," he added.

An opportunity to export knowledge and technology
"Thailand's demand for technology and auxiliary industry, especially now that its companies must comply with strict health, sustainability, and quality requirements, is a great business opportunity for us," Luengo stated.

"We are fortunate to have leading companies in technology and the development of production processes, as we have detected Thailand's need to improve the level of its raw materials in livestock and aquaculture, the productivity of its agriculture, packaging, logistics, and food distribution chains," he added.
