CNA shows impacts of production costs in fruit industry

Recent surveys carried out with lemon, avocado and grape producers in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná, in 2022, expand on the effects of the composition of production costs, the impacts of fertilizers and labor.

For avocado production in the municipality of Piraju (SP), a modal property of 30 hectares was defined, with a productivity of 14.6 tons per hectare. In this mode, fertilizers accounted for 39% of the Effective Operating Cost (COE) and labor for 25%.

CNA technical advisor Letícia Barony stated that the survey of production costs is important to observe a history of the production chains between crops, the oscillation of costs and economic returns, in addition to allowing a better understanding of the technological package used.

Grape production costs were surveyed in Bento Gonçalves (RS), Marialva (PR), Pilar do Sul (SP) and Tangará (SC). In all modes, the workforce leads the composition of the COE. General expenses, which include driving the crop and harvesting, are items that burden the grape grower. “In all regions, we observed that the producer's Gross Revenue does not exceed the Total Cost of the activity,” explained the researcher.
