Citrus loadings from South Africa to the US have concluded

Over the last few seasons, the citrus market in the US has drastically changed, according to an update from Summer Citrus from South Africa (SCSA). In 2018, the organization experienced a record year in volumes only to be surprised in 2019 with a shift in demand for Navel Oranges. “With the rise of the pandemic in 2020, we experienced an exponential increase in demand due to consumers seeking foods rich in Vitamin C and immune boosting properties,” says Suhanra Conradie with SCSA.

In 2022, the organization is shipping record volumes of Navels Oranges with continued forward momentum and are seeing an even larger demand for Mandarins, as well as more available supply.

As South Africa brings its citrus harvest to a close over the course of the month, the expectation is for Midknights to take the place of Navels on the market. “We'll continue to see Star Ruby Grapefruit as a true star with excellent quality and limited quantities available,” added Conradie.

Loadings from South Africa have concluded, and the last vessel and containers are due for arrival later in October.

“We thank you for support and choosing SCSA. Without you, this program would not be made possible,” finished Conradie.
