The Middle East and China should be the next markets with the greatest potential to be explored by Ceará state fruit producers in the coming years. According to Raul Viana, port business manager of the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém, access to Chinese trade, which still depends on air freight, should only be a reality in the long term. Viana explained that there is still no technology to transport fruit to China in the necessary time using the water modal. In addition, there are currently no ways to make the trip using the fruit refrigeration and canning equipment available today.
“A market to be explored, but which still depends on new technologies, is China. Brazil and China were blocked from negotiating the entry of fruit, and we were not allowed to export melons, so it is a big factor to be explored from now on. However, we don't have a maritime line for the melon to reach the required shelf life yet,” he explained.
The Middle East market, on the other hand, should show clearer results in the next few years, based on negotiations related to goods transport services.
