Peru plans to export more than 600,000 tons of grapes in the 2022-2023 campaign

According to the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa), Peru could export more than 600,000 tons of table grapes during the 2022-2023 campaign, as exports are projected to increase by 11% over the previous season when the country exported 544,310 tons. The most demanded varieties worldwide are the Red Globe and Sweet Globe varieties.

The grape export campaign runs mainly from October to April of the following year. A few weeks before the start of the campaign, 104 packing plants will be authorized and more than 23,000 hectares of vine located in the regions of Ica, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Arequipa, and Ancash will be certified.

Commercial windows
Peru ships its grapes to a total of 93 international markets. However, SENASA continues to work hand in hand with the private sector to expand the commercial portfolio and further consolidate the export growth of Peruvian producers.

Chile and Japan should be the next markets open as the bilateral negotiations that SENASA is heading have advanced and should be completed in the short term.

A delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) recently carried out a technical visit to production sites and table grape packaging plants in the regions of Piura and Ica, as part of the process to gain access to Japan.

Meanwhile, Chile's Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) is reviewing the work plan for the corresponding signatures.
