"Production volume is an estimated 15%-20% smaller than last year"

"New lemon season has begun in China"

The lemon production volume is predicted to decline this season due to unfavorable weather conditions. Now that the volume in storage is nearly consumed, market supply is running low, and so the price has gone up. Sales manager Ma, spokesperson for Sichuan Xue Wang Lemons Co., Ltd., recently talked about conditions in the domestic and export markets."

Manager Ma first talked about conditions in the production areas. "The lemon harvest in Sichuan is already well underway. The new lemons are expected to enter the market in late September, with a peak period in October and November. The season is expected to end in late December. Dry weather in August affected the lemons. The overall production volume is predicted to decline by 15%-20%, but the product quality is not affected."

"The lemon reserves in storage are already finished. Market supply is running low, and so the price has gone up. The current retail price is around 9 yuan [1.28 USD] per 0.5 kg."

Sichuan Xue Wang Lemons exports small volumes of lemons to Southeast Asia. "The ongoing pandemic, rising oil prices, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine all have a negative impact on the lemon export market." When asked about predictions for the export market, manager Ma replied, "although order volumes have declined in recent weeks, we expect the export volume to exceed last year's export volume because the shipping fees are gradually coming down."

When talking about competition for Chinese lemon export, manager Ma explained, "Turkey and Egypt produce cheaper lemons than China, but they only do so seasonally. Turkey and Egypt can only supply the market for a few months every year, while Chinese Eureka lemons are available all year long. Although the shipping fees are coming down, the price is still relatively high, which weakens the competitive position of Chinese lemons in the international lemon market."

Sichuan Xue Wang Lemons is a company specialized in the plantation, purchasing, processing, and retail of lemons. The company handles more than 55,000 tons of lemons per year. The company primarily sells lemons in the domestic market, especially to tea and beverage shops, restaurants, and wholesale markets. The company also exports a small volume of lemons to Southeast Asian markets.
