Major Georgian aromatic herb grower halts exports as production is insufficient

Herbia is a high-tech enterprise located in Tskaltubo, producing up to 30 types of herbs, vegetables, as well as various types of sauces. The company is an important player in the Georgian aromatic herbs market and issued a statement about the current situation. Zurab Janelidze, the founder of the company, has stated that during the last years, Herbia sales in the local market have been increasing by 30-40% every year. For now, Herbia has stopped exporting aromatic herbs and serves only the local market.

“There is such an increased demand for our products in the local market that we stop exporting for some months. The reason for this is that we cannot produce enough products to deliver to Europe,” – said Janelidze.

The company sends its products to the foreign market in late autumn and early spring, but exports never exceed 2-3% of the company’s total production. “We sold our products in the European Union. Mostly in Germany, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and even the Baltic countries. But in the end, we remain only in Bulgaria because we can no longer meet the demand of other markets in terms of quantity,” he added.
