According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, agri-food trade between Mexico and the United States in the first half of 2022 increased by 16% over the same period of 2021, amounting to 37,639 million dollars.
The value of Mexican agri-food exports increased by 18%, and imports increased by 13%, the Ministry added. Thus, Mexico had a surplus balance of 10.1 billion dollars, which is 24% higher than the surplus recorded during the same period of 2021.
The main agro-food export products were fruits, alcoholic beverages and vinegars, and vegetables, which accounted for 27%, 24%, and 20% of Mexico's agri-food sales to the US, respectively. The main fruit and vegetable export product was avocado, with 1.733 billion dollars. Tomato, raspberry, blackberry, pepper, strawberry, and grape exports also stood out. Avocado exports in the first half of the year increased by 27%, the Ministry highlighted.
