In the first semester, shipments totaled 293.4 million dollars

Honduras' banana exports start to recover in 2022

Honduran banana exports in the first six months of 2022 totaled 293.4 million dollars, i.e. 158.4 million dollars more than the value achieved in the same period of 2021, the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH) highlighted.

The largest volumes exported were linked to the gradual recovery of the areas affected by hurricanes Eta and Iota that hit the country at the end of 2020. Additionally, the average international price increased by 18.2%, so each box was quoted at 21.67 dollars, a higher price than the 18.33 dollars per box paid in 2021 and the 19.27 dollars per box paid in the previous year.

The improvement in prices in 2022 is attributed in part to a decrease in Ecuador's production - the world's largest producer - due to unfavorable weather conditions (cold), the BCH report added.

However, international sales of bananas in the first half of this year did not exceed the 294.7 million dollars achieved in the same period of 2020 before the passage of hurricanes Eta and Iota.
