Third consecutive record season for Dutch onion exports

In the 2021/2022 season, more than 1.3 million tons of Dutch onions were exported. GroentenFruit Huis data shows that this is the third export record in a row for the onion sector. This information is based on the Netherlands' Quality Control Bureau export figures.

Here are some highlights of the past season's Dutch onion exports:

  • Most (52%) of Dutch onions were sold to buyers in Africa. That region houses six of the top ten export destinations.
  • In the 2021/2022 season, the Netherlands exported onions to 129 countries. However, 65,8% of the export volume went to only ten destinations.
  • Ivory Coast (180.012 tons) passed Senegal (175.698 tons) in the export destinations ranking.
  • Exports peaked in the first half of the season, with 62% of the total exports leaving the Netherlands before the new year began.
