Peruvian Hass avocado exports will grow by 8% this year

Six weeks before the end of the 2022 export campaign, Prohass has stated that Peru will export almost 525,000 tons of avocado this season, i.e. 8% more avocado than in the previous season.

95% of Peru's total Hass avocado production is destined for export and 5% for domestic consumption, which means that the per capita consumption of this variety is currently lower in the country than in other countries, such as the United States, Mexico, and Chile.

Arturo Medina, the general manager of ProHass, presented the 'Everything is better with Hass avocado' campaign within the 'Hass Avocado Week', with the aim of boosting national consumption. "Peruvians consume about 9 kilograms of avocado per capita and only 0.3 kilograms of this amount corresponds to Hass avocado, so we must raise awareness about the benefits of this internationally recognized avocado variety," he stated.
