Consider Australia for citrus supply this counter season
As the counter season for citrus is upon us, the demand for Southern Hemisphere citrus is high. Latin America and South Africa have been the go-to sources for citrus for the US market but Australia should also be a consideration according to Austrade.
Australia is a predictable producer of premium citrus with a long season. National growing means almost year-round supply. Navels are in high supply now through to November and mandarins from now through October.

tasting, juicy oranges and mandarins this season. Research on this season’s flavour profiles conducted by Citrus Australia has revealed dry conditions last year leading into this season’s harvest, which is underway in all states, has led to sweeter, juicier fruit."

The season has commenced and growers are working hard to deliver the best fruit for the US market.
Australian orange producers grow predominantly Navels and some Valencia oranges. Mandarin varieties include Honey Murcott and Low Seed Murcott, Imperial and Afourer. Australia can also supply Lemons, Limes and Grapefruit.
Australian suppliers can ship in bulk and/or pack product in almost any format customers prefer. Australian suppliers are experienced global exporters and many are set up in USA.

United States is a key market for export of citrus from Australia. Australia has been growing citrus since 1787 and exporting to US from early 1990’s.
Australia shipped $16.4m in citrus in 2020, up from $13.8m the prior year, 2019 and the growth continues.
