"We want to supply our organic dehydrated mangos, pineapples and bananas to international markets"

Tropical fruit is taking the markets by storm. Their expansion and the increase in the demand are evident; just by browsing any shelf or taking a look in our own refrigerators, it becomes clear. The volumes exported of the main tropical fruits, namely mango, pineapple, papaya and avocado, have, in fact, shown some of the fastest average annual growths of any internationally traded food products, as pointed out by the OECD and FAO in their latest report "Agricultural Outlook 2021-2030", in which they also predicted notable increases for all of them this decade.

And these good prospects apply not only to fresh fruits. Dehydrated tropical fruits, especially mangoes, are also expected to record interesting market increases, and new operators in this sector, such as Maqfruex del Perú E.I.R.L., will contribute to meet a demand that will follow a growing trend in the coming years, according to reports from organizations such as the CBI (Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries).

"As an agro-industrial company, Maqfruex del Perú EI.R. L is specialized in the processing and preservation of fruits and vegetables, and it has extensive experience in the production, packaging and export of dehydrated products. We want to reach the international markets and supply our exquisite and good quality dehydrated organic mangoes, bananas and pineapples, thereby providing added value to our health, since dehydrated fruits are a rich source of vitamins and minerals and are free of additives or preservatives," says Guadalupe Ayllen Mejía Sullón, junior manager of the company.

"We obtain our raw material from farms devoted to organic fruit cultivation here in Peru. The Edward, Kent and Keitt mango varieties we process are grown in Piura; the Cavendish banana comes from Sullana and the Golden pineapple comes from fields in Tumbes and Ica."

"The dehydration process is done exclusively with hot air. The fruit is cut, the skin is separated from the pulp and introduced into the hot air tunnels to reduce the amount of water until a dehydrated product of the highest quality is obtained."

"We currently have an organic certification and we plan to implement the HACCP certification this year, before the start of the next season. It is important to mention that at Maqfruex del Perú we aim to promote our product line in the main markets of Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America. In the United States we had the opportunity to export about 3 containers through an intermediary, and now, as a company, we want to reach all destinations," says Guadalupe Ayllen Mejía Sullón.

"We will market our dehydrated fruit, for now mainly mango, in bulk in 2.5 kg bags. The product can be consumed directly as a healthy and tasty snack, or it can be processed by the customer and used in other kinds of products, such as energy bars, granola or toppings for yogurts and jams. In Peru, the new mango season will start in October and will last until April, and with the new harvest we will be able to increase our volumes of dehydrated mangoes and supply our customers and future clients in the international market," says Jefferson Félix Mejía Sullón, export manager.
