Tomato market continues to decline

The tomato market has been in a downturn recently. Due to cloudy and rainy weather, and pandemics, the price of tomatoes rose steadily from the end of July to mid-August last year. However, the trend is quite the opposite this year.

The main factor leading to the low price this year is that the tomato planting in some areas expanded significantly because the tomato market was good last year and the year before. For example, in Chifeng, it is conservatively estimated that the area of tomatoes increased by 2,000-3,000 mu.

At present, there are many tomato-producing areas, and tomatoes from Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shanxi, and other places have all flooded the market.

Due to the weather, the production that should have been staggered was concentrated on the market together. For example, the tomatoes in Ningcheng, Chifeng, ended in early August last year. This year, due to the low temperature in the early stage, the tomatoes matured slowly. They have been supplied until now, and they are supplied together with the local greenhouse tomatoes and Chengde paddock tomatoes.

Regarding the trend of the tomato market in the future, some people said that the market will bottom out in a few days, while others said that they are not optimistic about the market in the second half of the month. It seems that in the short term, the dark cloud of low prices over the tomatoes market may still be difficult to clear.
