Rotterdam Fruit Wharf expands packing and repacking activities after takeover by Kivits Logistics Group

Two new net machines for citrus and two topseal lines for grapes

A year ago, Rotterdam Fruit Wharf was taken over by the Kivits Logistics Group. According to Peter van de Laar, the takeover has led to plenty of extra activities for the company at the Merwehaven. For example, forty to fifty extra employees are currently working in the packing and repacking department.

"Thanks to the expertise of the Kivits Logistics Group for the so-called added value services such as packing and repacking and the transport and distribution network of Kivits-Drunen, we can serve our existing customers even better. We have, for example, invested in two packing lines for topsealing/hotsealing of grapes and two net machines for packing citrus," Van de Laar explains.

In the near future, citrus fruits from overseas will once again find their way to Rotterdam in large numbers, although the new regulations in the area of cold treatment are quite complex. "It is bizarre that these regulations were pushed through on the basis of political rather than scientific arguments, without any preparation time. Nobody knows exactly where they stand now," says Peter.
