For several years now, limes have been gaining popularity on the French market.
This success is certainly due to the introduction of the famous mojito, a refreshing cocktail to sip with friends during the summer season. While the lime market is usually considered a fast fluctuating market, "for the last two or three months, the market has reached relatively high price levels", reports Christian Cuvellier of the import company Oliver present on the Rungis MIN.
This price level is linked to strong consumption, but also logistical disruptions: "There was a time when we had a lot of delays in deliveries. The arrivals of several boats were delayed by a few weeks, creating a shortage on the market. It was this shortage of goods that led to these high price levels. Then summer came, and consumption took over."
Oliver offers limes of Brazilian origin, whose quality is rigorously selected: "What is interesting in the lime is the juice. And in this matter, the Brazilian origin is top-notch. We favor goods with good coloring and size. We work exclusively with limes shipped by boat because we would not gain in quality by air freight."
