Mapa updates Agricultural Climate Risk Zoning for apple growing

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) has published an update of the Agricultural Zoning of Climate Risk (Zarc) for the apple tree crop to the South and Southeast regions. The update consists of some changes in the Technical Note and an increase in the coverage area, with new regions with climatic potential for production in the Zarc of apple for the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The methodology used was the same for the other cultures, in which the classification is based on the availability of water and the temperature indices of each region evaluated, for the different phases of the culture. Risk levels can range from up to 20%, from 20% to 30%, from 30% to 40%, and over 40%. Within this methodology, areas with up to 20% risk are the most suitable and those with more than 40% risk are not recommended for apple cultivation.
