"Our orchard is located in Guangshui City, Hubei. We mainly cultivate yellow heart kiwi fruit. This is the fourth year that our orchard has been in business, which means that our trees are mature and in peak production. We expect a total production volume of yellow heart kiwi fruit of around 1.5 million kg. This is the time of year when the kiwi fruit is accumulating sugars, and the weather conditions have been ideal," said Li Donghai.

"The harvest of yellow heart kiwi fruit begins in October. The fruit has just finished the first period of swelling, and immediately began the second period of swelling, before switching to the accumulation of sugar. This is a key period in the kiwi fruit production process. Guangshui weather is known for long hours of sunshine and conditions have been excellent in the last few weeks. This weather is ideal for the accumulation of sugars in kiwi fruit. However, precipitation has been minimal, so our irrigation system has been active for 14 hours a day to supply additional water. The BRIX value of Guangshui yellow heart kiwi fruit is high compared to other kiwi fruit. And when the kiwi fruit is ripe, then the fragrance is intense."
Orchard owners cover the kiwi fruit in paper bags to protects the fruit from strong sunshine and heavy winds. This helps to protect the kiwi fruit against damage, but also keeps the fruit peel unblemished.

"Weather conditions in Hubei are ideal for kiwi fruit production. The overall surface area devoted to kiwi fruit plantation is more or less the same as last year. Our orchard covers an area of 200 hectares. And we reached peak production this year. We plan to supply the market with large volumes of yellow heart kiwi fruit," said Li Donghai.
The orchard cooperates with retailers to help connect production areas with consumer markets. Retailers provide orchards with requirements for packaging design based on market conditions. And they provide assistance with refrigerated transport. The yellow heart kiwi fruit is expected to enter the retail market in the middle of November.

Hubei Peach Plum Fragrance Ecological Orchard Co., Ltd. has cold storage facilities with a capacity of 400 tons. And in September their new cold storage facilities with a capacity of 1,200 tons will be completed. The company also owns their own selection line and loading dock. The company has a registered trademark 'Flaming Gold Fruit' aimed at the mid- and high-end market. They primarily sell in fruit shops and supermarkets. And their kiwi fruit comes in boxes of 3kg or 4 pieces.
