In 2022 Semillas Fitó has, once again, carried out its FitoWeek in the Campo de Cartagena (Murcia). The event focused on showing the managers of large distribution chains, supermarkets, technicians, farmers, and specialized journalists the company's entire melon and watermelon range, with a special focus on its novelties. Nearly 200 professionals attended the event, which was held on July 7 and 8. There, they had the opportunity to see and taste all of the company's product varieties and learn about the morphological and gustatory characteristics of the fruits, as well as the agronomic behavior of the varieties in real cultivation conditions.
Little Planet, a new melon variety that has been seen as a good option to recover the consumption of melon was the novelty that aroused the most interest among chain managers, producers, and specialized press. Little Planet is a completely new type of melon that Semillas Fitó is putting on the market. It has a small and striking format, a new type of meat (christened ice green) that is crunchy, fruity, aromatic, and sweet (>16 degrees). It is extra juicy and has an attractive green color.
Little Planet's plant adapts to different types of plantations, both outdoor and greenhouse crops. Its fruit achieves a cream color when it ripens and is ready to eat. However, it maintains its attractive green spots throughout its life cycle.
The company also presented its new Cantaloup Marme at Fitoweek 2022. This variety is ideal for intermediate sowing and stands out for having a very dark and rustic plant that is harder, more resistant, and has excellent plant health. Marme has a very homogeneous, round fruit. It has a very uniform skin design that marks the meridians very well, it has very good post-harvest, and can remain in the field for up to seven days without being harvested.
The company also presented the Arroyo and Montiel Piel de Sapo melons that the company will sell under its distinctive Flavourite brand.
Finally, it should be noted that Semillas Fitó has developed a specific website for FitoWeek that details all the novelties presented, with explanatory files and videos, as well as the entire range of melons and their different varieties with photos and technical data sheets.
