In 2020, the Netherlands produced 586% more cucumber per square meter than Spain

According to data from FAO's statistical agency, Faostat, in 2020 the world produced a record 91,258.27 million kilos of cucumbers. That year, the area devoted to producing cucumber stood at 2,261,318 hectares, which means that the average yield worldwide was 4.04 kg/m².

According to the data prepared by Hortoinfo, the Netherlands had the best performance in the world with an average of 70.52 kg/m², i.e. 585.99% more than Spain, which, despite being the second-best performing country among the 30 largest producers in the world, only achieved yields of 10.28 kg/m².

Turkey produced 5.04 kg/m²; Egypt, 2.25kg/m²; Poland, 6.71 kg/m², and Greece 8.01 kg/m².

The world's largest producers
China is the world's largest producer with 72,779.78 million kilos. In 2020, China devoted 1,278,152 hectares to producing cucumber and had an average yield of 5.69 kg/m².

Turkey was the world's second-biggest producer in 2020 with 1,926.88 million kilos of cucumber that were produced in 38,246 hectares, achieving a yield of 5.04 kg/m².

Russia ranked third with 1,686.98 million kilos, 40,029 hectares, and a yield of 4.21 kg/m².

Iran ranked fourth with 1,205.68 million kilos, 40,344 hectares, and a yield of 2.99 kg/m².

Mexico ranked fifth with 1,159.93 million kilos, 15,742 hectares, and an average yield of 7.37 kilos per square meter.

According to the FAO, in 2020 Spain ranked eighth with 794.88 million kilos, 7,730 hectares, and an average yield of 10.28 kg/m².
