According to data shared by the consultancy Inform@cción, Peruvian exports of fresh avocado in the current campaign (until July 4) totaled 329,000 tons, equaling the volume shipped in the same period of the previous campaign.
However, Fernando Cilloniz Benavides, president of Inform@cción, said that they expected the volumes of late fresh avocado exports would be greater than in the previous campaign. "We expect there will be more avocado in Peru in July, and especially in August and September, than in the past campaign," he said.
The first part of the 2022 avocado season has been characterized by high prices in the United States, but low prices in the European market, Cilloniz stated. He added that the price in Europe is so bad that many Peruvian producers are leaving the fruit in the tree (where it can be kept for some period) waiting for them to improve.
