US: Fast grocery delivery service Gorillas opening Jersey City location
A quick-delivery grocer that launched in New York City amid the pandemic will be expanding across the Hudson River over the coming months as Gorillas is building their first Jersey City outpost. A modern Downtown property at 338 Newark Avenue officially has a ground floor tenant for its retail space. The 4,000-square-foot space is currently abuzz with construction activity and will be the future home of Gorillas, a startup founded in Berlin, Germany.

New Amazon Fresh grocery store now open in Arlington
A new Amazon Fresh grocery store in Crystal City opened, offering customers the option of Just Walk Out Shopping, which lets customers skip the checkout line. The store is located at 1550 Crystal Drive in Arlington, near Amazon's HQ2. The store's hours will be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

US: H Mart builds upon operating areas
H Mart is on the move, with two new locations on opposite sides of the country. The Asian grocer is saying "Aloha" to customers in Hawaii at its latest store at 850 Kamehameha Hwy. in Pearl City, set for a July 22 grand opening. Later this month, another H Mart will welcome shoppers at 101 Falls Blvd. in Quincy, Massachusetts.

US: Costco Wholesale Corporation reports June sales results
Costco Wholesale Corporation (“Costco” or the “Company”) reported net sales of $22.78bln for the retail month of June, the five weeks ended July 3, 2022, an increase of 20.4% from $18.92bln last year. Japan: Seven & I raises profit forecast on overseas sales prospects
Japan's Seven & I Holdings has raised its full-year profit forecast, on expectations that a weaker yen will boost the value of overseas convenience store sales. The operator of 7-Eleven convenience stores lifted its operating income estimate 15% to 445bln yen (€3.21bln) in the year ending February 2023, it said in first-quarter results.

Italy: Coop reports turnover of €14.3bln, market share reaches 12.5%
Coop Italia ended 2021 with a total turnover of €14.3bln, slightly down on the previous year’s €14.4bln, of which €13.2bln was derived from retail activities. The association of 78 cooperatives managed to slightly increase its market share in the large-scale retail sector, to 12.5%, up from 12.4% the previous year.

France: Carrefour has teamed up with NOUS anti-gaspi and created a range of products that stand out from the rest, as well as being up to 20% cheaper
In partnership with NOUS anti-gaspi - trailblazing stores in the drive to tackle food wastage - Carrefour is exclusively selling 30 products in its Paris-region hypermarkets and will later expand this initiative to the rest of the country. Organic French-origin cucumbers will be available at €1.29 each; French-origin peaches, nectarines and apricots will be available at €1.99 per kilo.

Spain: Coviran sees sales decline in full-year 2021
Spanish proximity retail cooperative Coviran closed its 2021 financial year with gross sales amounting to €1.64bln, down 3.5% on the previous year. Of the total, €1.44bln was achieved in the company’s home market and the remaining €199mln in Portugal. Net profit amounted to €960,000, while EBITDA dropped 31% to €7.97mln. Capex amounted to €4.2mln, mainly for technological upgrades and modernisation of existing stores.

HappyFresh Malaysia’s own warehouses are its latest strategy toward a path of profitability
