"If they weren't interested in our system they would not spend such a long time attending"

Growers and packers get a first hand look at Reemoon's new Fruscan 7 in Griffith

More than 22 fresh produce companies from Australia's south attended a presentation and site visit to see Reemoon's Fruscan S7 Pro four-lane grader in action this week.

Clear Lake Citrus is based in Griffith in the New South Wales Riverina, and it started using the new machine and software this season. Reemoon Vice Director Dennis Clock says people came from as far away as South Australia and Mildura to attend the citrus company's packing shed.

"They wanted to see the system including hardware sorting function and the bin fillers with their own eyes and talk with the owner," he said. "This helped them get an idea of how it helped Clear Lake Citrus and how it could help them. This year has been a bad year for blemishes, which was caused by the bad weather and too much rain."

He says the Fruscan S7 Pro is a multi-angle six-camera system (3 IR and 3 Colour) for one lane and it takes images from 3 angles (one 90 per cent straight above and the other two from 45 per cent angles).

"The growers and packers took time out of their busy season to attend today," Mr Clock said. "Some people had to drive between 5-9 hours just for the half-day event. That's pleasing because if they weren't interested in our system they would not spend such a long time attending today. Reemoon Fruscan function is really good to sort the blemishes. It is very accurate and the variety of blemishes that it covers is very thorough. So, it was good to meet the farmers and know that we meet their requirements. They have been really interested in the software program, but it is important that see how the hardware that is of an industrial design works."

Clear Lake Citrus is a family-run business that was established around 26 years ago. It has just started with its own fruit, specializing in Navel and Valencia oranges, but packs for 50 other growers who supply them with their fruit, and it supplies not just domestically but is now getting back into the exports.

FreshPlaza will run a follow-up article on the visit next week.
