Hema Fresh Outlets is positioned as a quality discount store, which is a supplementary format of Hema Fresh. According to Hema, as of May 31, Hema has opened more than 40 outlets stores across China.
It is understood that the fresh food at the outlets stores will come from commodities close to their sell-by date, products with slight bumps incurred during transportation and daily fresh commodities that are not sold out on the same day at Hema Fresh. To ensure quality, these goods will be sent to outlet stores on the same night and they are sold the next day at a "discounted price for the benefit of the people". Depending on the category and the validity period of different products, the discount will be different. But the overall price will be lower than the average market price of the same quality.
Hema said that Hema Fresh Outlets helps more consumers to experience Hema products at a relatively low price. At the same time, the opening and promotion of Hema Fresh Outlets can help Hema greatly reduce food loss and waste at the processing centers and stores.
The first Hema Fresh Outlets (Qunfangyuan Store) in Beijing opened in December 2021, located in Tongzhou Yunjing East Road. The store covers an area of 300 square meters.
In October 2021, the first store of Hema Fresh Outlets opened in Shanghai. In November of the same year, the second Hema Fresh Outlets store opened in Chengdu. The outlets stores then subsequently expanded to the whole country. For example, Wuhan's first Hema Fresh Outlets opened in Qiaokou District on December 31, 2021, with an area of more than 400 square meters and about 2,000 products.
