China is the leading producer and Spain ranks 11th

World melon production achieved a new record in 2020

According to data shared by Faostat, the world produced 28,467.92 million kilos of melon in 2020, setting a new record in the production of this fruit. Two years ago, the world devoted 1,068,238 hectares to melon production and the average yield worldwide stood at 2.66 kg/m².

China is the world's largest producer with 13,838.23 million kilos. In 2020, China devoted 385,756 hectares to producing melons and had an average yield of 3.59 kg/m².

China was followed by Turkey with 1,724.86 million kilos of melon, 76,129 hectares, and a yield of 2.27 kilos per square meter.

In 2020, India ranked as the world's third-biggest melon producer with 1,330 million kilos, 59,000 hectares, and a yield of 2.25 kg/m².

Iran ranked fourth with 1,283.7 million kilos, 58,520 hectares, and a yield of 2.19 kg/m².

Kazakhstan ranked fifth with 1,165.4 million kilos, 51,258 hectares, and an average yield of 2.27 kilos per square meter.

Spain ranked eleventh with 610.98 million kilos, 18,520 hectares, and an average yield of 3.30 kg/m².

In 2020, Guatemala produced 655.71 million kilos of melons in 28,384 hectares, obtaining a yield of 2.31 kg/m².

Brazil produced 613.93 million kilos in 23,827 hectares, obtaining a yield of 2.58 kg/m².

Morocco produced 504.86 million kilos of melon in 16,830 hectares, achieving an average yield of 3 kg/m².

France produced 266.64 million kilos in 13,110 hectares and a yield of 2.03 kg/m².

Egypt produced 215.97 million kilos of melon in 7,848 hectares and an average yield of 2.75 kg/m².
